Client Manager / Tax Manager – Scope for Advisory and Potential Succession
Northamptonshire | Salary open to discussion, depending on experience and scope of role | Office-based
Would you like greater responsibility in an independent accountancy firm – and the opportunity to help shape your own role?
Independent firm in Northamptonshire is looking to appoint an experienced practice professional to work closely with its Managing Director, take on greater responsibility for clients and support the future development of the business.
The firm has an established client portfolio and team. Its core work covers statutory accounts, tax compliance, management accounts and bookkeeping, with specialist tax planning and audit currently handled by external firms.
There is flexibility around the appointment. The priority is finding someone who can make a meaningful contribution, with the role developed around their experience, strengths and ambitions.
An accounts and client management route
You may be an experienced accounts professional or Client Manager who enjoys working with clients and would like to develop further in tax and advisory.
Much of the accounts preparation would be completed by the team before reaching you. Your focus would be on managing client relationships, discussing their needs and taking responsibility for work currently handled by the Managing Director.
A tax management route
Alternatively, you may be a Tax Manager who would welcome the opportunity to become the firm’s main tax contact.
You would take ownership of tax compliance, help develop the advisory offering and use external specialist support where appropriate. This route would suit someone confident working as the principal tax specialist within a small practice.
Longer-term ownership ambitions
For someone interested in eventually running their own firm, there may also be scope to explore a succession arrangement.
Joining the business would provide an opportunity to understand its clients, work alongside the Managing Director and assess whether a future handover could be right for both parties. Any arrangement would need to be discussed and agreed over time.
Who could this suit?
An experienced UK accountancy practice professional who:
- Enjoys client contact and taking responsibility.
- Can work independently while supporting an existing team.
- Wants greater involvement in the development of a small firm.
- Has strengths in accounts and client management, tax, or a combination of both.
The firm operates from the office, so you will need to be based within a practical travelling distance of Northampton.
Salary is open to discussion and will reflect the experience you bring and the responsibilities agreed.

Applicants must have relevant UK public practice experience. Visa sponsorship is not available either now or in the future.
