Senior Accountant – Northampton
General Practice Role | Flexible Working | Varied SME Client Portfolio
An established and progressive accountancy practice in Northampton is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Accountant.
This is a broad general practice position centred on accounts preparation for a varied portfolio of SME clients. Alongside the technical work, the successful candidate will have regular client contact, support junior colleagues and assist the managers with the effective running of their portfolios.
The opportunity would suit an ACA or ACCA-qualified accountant, or an experienced QBE, who has developed a strong general practice background and enjoys providing a reliable, high-quality service to clients.
The role
Responsibilities will include:
- Preparing statutory accounts from clients’ prime records and accounting software
- Producing accounts to draft stage for manager review
- Preparing associated corporation tax computations
- Applying appropriate accounting standards, including FRS 102 Section 1A
- Producing useful management information, including cash-flow forecasts
- Reviewing management accounts and VAT returns
- Responding to client queries and providing practical accounting support
- Assisting clients with their bookkeeping processes and requirements
- Supporting, training and developing junior members of the team
- Assisting managers with the day-to-day running of their client portfolios
About you
You will have:
- Relevant experience gained within a UK accountancy practice
- Strong accounts preparation and general accounting knowledge
- Experience of dealing directly with clients and responding to accounting queries
- Familiarity with accountancy software, ideally including IRIS and Xero
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- A supportive and dependable approach to teamwork
- A genuine commitment to providing a high standard of client service
- The ability to manage your work responsibly and use your own initiative
